Ask Nicole: Your Questions on Skin Health, Gut Health & Nervous System Rituals

Posted by Nicole Sherwin on

Some of the most meaningful conversations begin with a simple question.

Why does my skin still feel dry, even after I moisturise? Could what is happening in my gut be showing up on my face? How do I support my nervous system when life feels relentlessly busy? What does a realistic wellness ritual look like when I don’t have an hour to spare?

These are the questions so many of us quietly carry. They are also the reason I am so excited to introduce Ask Nicole, a new Eco Diva series created to make skin health, gut health and everyday wellbeing feel more personal, practical and far less overwhelming.

This is a space where you can ask me the questions you have been wondering about — and receive thoughtful, honest guidance shaped by my own lived experience, more than a decade of working in natural skincare, and a lifelong curiosity about the relationship between the skin, the gut, the mind and the nervous system.

Your questions are where the conversation begins

There is already an overwhelming amount of wellness information in the world. Every day brings another must-have ingredient, complicated routine, miracle treatment or beautifully packaged promise. Yet the more information we consume, the easier it can be to lose touch with the person who matters most in the conversation: ourselves.

Ask Nicole is not about chasing perfection or adding more pressure to your day. It is about pausing long enough to ask:

What is my body trying to tell me, and what might help me support it?

Each Ask Nicole episode will explore a real question from our community. We will talk about natural skincare routines, skin hydration, sensitive and reactive skin, the connection between gut health and skin health, clean living, emotional wellbeing and small nervous system reset rituals that can be folded into an ordinary day.

Some answers may involve a product or skincare ritual. Others may begin with something much simpler: slowing your breathing, changing a daily habit, resting more deeply, reading a label or paying attention to a pattern your body has been repeating.

Because true wellbeing is rarely found in one dramatic transformation. More often, it is built through small acts of care, practised consistently.

Our first question: How can I effectively hydrate my skin?

We begin the series with a question I am asked often:

How can I effectively hydrate my skin?

For me, deeply hydrated skin is not about relying on one heavy cream and hoping it does all the work. It is about layering hydration and nourishment through a ritual that respects the skin rather than overwhelming it.

I begin with our Natural Face Wash to cleanse gently without leaving the skin feeling tight or stripped. A few times a week, I follow with the Ecofoliant Skin Polish to help lift away dull, dry surface cells so that the products that follow can work more effectively.

Next comes the Superfood Face Serum, pressed slowly into slightly damp skin, followed by the Ultimate Face Cream to seal in hydration and support the skin’s natural protective barrier. When my skin is asking for additional comfort and nourishment, I add a little Rejuvenate Canna Balm.

But effective skin hydration is not only about what we apply.

Our skin is part of a living, interconnected system. Stress, sleep, hydration, environment, nutrition, hormones, digestion and the health of the skin barrier can all influence how our complexion looks and feels.

This is why I believe in caring for the whole person, not simply treating what we can see in the mirror.

The skin, gut and nervous system connection

Our skin does not exist in isolation.

The gut, skin and nervous system are in constant conversation. When we are living in a prolonged state of stress, sleeping poorly or struggling with digestive imbalance, the effects may show up in many different ways — including changes in the comfort, sensitivity or appearance of our skin.

This does not mean that every skin concern has one simple cause. Bodies are wonderfully individual, and persistent or concerning symptoms deserve appropriate professional attention. But it does mean that our daily rituals can become an important form of support.

A slow skincare ritual can be about more than cleansing and moisturising. It can become a quiet signal to the body that, for these few minutes, it is safe to soften.

A nourishing meal can be more than fuel.

A cup of tea enjoyed without a phone can be more than a break.

A few deliberate breaths can become a small return to ourselves.

This is the heart of Ask Nicole: exploring the many gentle ways we can support our wellbeing without turning self-care into another performance or impossible list.

What would you like to ask me?

Perhaps you have been living with dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin and do not know where to begin.

Perhaps you are curious about the relationship between gut health and breakouts, inflammation or skin sensitivity.

Perhaps your nervous system feels permanently switched on, and you would love simple rituals to help you feel more grounded.

Or perhaps you want to understand an ingredient, create a more natural skincare routine, simplify your beauty cupboard or learn how to listen to your skin as it changes with age, hormones, seasons and life.

Whatever you are wondering, I would love to hear from you.

You can send me your question by replying to my email, or visit the Ask Nicole reel on Instagram and leave it in the comments. Your question may inspire one of our next episodes — and it may be the very question that someone else in our community has been longing to ask too.

There are no silly questions here. Only opportunities to understand ourselves a little better.

Welcome to Ask Nicole. Let’s slow things down, become curious, and begin the conversation.
