I Put My Face on Do Not Disturb: My Six-Step Slow Skincare Ritual

There are days when my face tells me everything before I have said a word. It looks a little tired. A little thirsty. Slightly overwhelmed by life, weather, screens, stress—or simply too many days of rushing from one thing to the next.

That is when I put my face on Do Not Disturb.

Taking a few unhurried minutes to care for my skin changes how I feel in it. This is my personal six-step slow skincare ritual: a delicious sequence of cleansing, polishing, masking, misting, nourishing and moisturising. It is not about chasing perfection. It is about coming back to myself—and giving my skin the time, touch and natural nourishment it needs to feel fresh, comfortable and beautifully alive again.

Step One: Begin with a clean canvas

Natural Face Wash

I begin with our Natural Face Wash, massaging it gently into damp skin.

This first step removes the day—the makeup, sunscreen, perspiration, excess oil and environmental build-up that can leave skin feeling congested or lacklustre. But cleansing should never feel like punishment. I want my skin to feel clean and refreshed, not tight, stripped or squeaky. I take my time here, using my fingertips to move slowly across my face and neck. Even this simple act begins to shift the energy of my day. My shoulders soften. My breathing slows. My skin feels awake.

Why I use it: To cleanse away daily build-up while respecting the skin’s natural balance.

Who it is for: Anyone who wants a gentle daily cleanse and skin that feels fresh, comfortable and ready for the ritual that follows. No irritations here. Just calm and kind.

The feeling afterwards: Clean, calm and beautifully reset.

Step Two: Polish away the blah

Ecofoliant Skin Polish

Next comes our Ecofoliant Skin Polish—the step that takes my skin from “I’ve had a week” to “hello, there you are.”

I pour half a teaspoon into my hand, add a pump of face wash and a couple of drops of water and I gently massage it over damp skin, allowing the natural exfoliating action to lift away the dull surface build-up that can make the complexion look uneven and tired. There is something incredibly satisfying about this step. It feels as though I am polishing away more than dead skin cells; I am brushing off the mental clutter too. Exfoliation does not need to be aggressive to be effective. Slow, gentle movements are always the answer.

Why I use it: To remove dull surface build-up and help reveal smoother, brighter-looking skin.

Who it is for: Skin that feels rough, looks tired or needs a little extra radiance. Sensitive skins should use a very light touch and follow what feels comfortable.

The feeling afterwards: Smooth, soft and gloriously renewed. Shiny even.

Step Three: Let the masque do the multitasking

Hydrating Masque

Now for the moment my skin has been waiting for: our Hydrating Masque.

I apply a generous, comforting layer and allow it to sit while I do something wonderfully unproductive. I make tea. I stare out of the window. I potter around the garden. I sit quietly with the dogs. I relax in a salt bath. The important thing is that I do not turn these minutes into another task. This is where the ritual becomes more than skincare. While the masque gives my complexion a concentrated moment of hydration and care, I give myself permission to pause too.

Why I use it: To replenish hydration and comfort skin that feels dry, depleted or stressed.

Who it is for: Anyone whose skin is craving moisture, softness and a little extra love—particularly when it feels tight, tired or exposed to changing weather.

The feeling afterwards: Plump, comforted and deeply cared for.

Step Four: Mist like you mean it

Liquid Vitamin Hydra Mist

Once I have removed the masque, I spritz on our Liquid Vitamin Hydra Mist.

This is one of those tiny skincare moments that delivers an immediate mood shift. A cool cloud of hydration lands on my face, and suddenly everything feels fresher. The mist helps rehydrate and prepare my skin for the nourishing products that follow. I love applying my serum while my skin is still slightly damp because the entire ritual feels more fluid, juicy and alive.

Why I use it: To refresh the skin, add light hydration and prepare it for serum and moisturiser.

Who it is for: Every face that needs a refreshing drink—morning, evening or whenever the day begins to show.

The feeling afterwards: Dewy, refreshed and instantly revived.

Step Five: Feed the glow

Superfood Face Serum

While my skin is still damp, I press in our Superfood Face Serum.

This is where the ritual begins to feel deliciously nourishing. I warm a small amount between my fingertips and press it gently over my face and neck, allowing the botanical oils and superfood ingredients to cocoon the skin. I never rush this step. I breathe in, press slowly and let my hands linger. Facial touch and gentle massage can be such a simple way to reconnect with ourselves. No machine, complicated technique or ten-minute timer required—just a little presence.

Why I use it: To nourish the skin, replenish precious moisture and support a healthy, luminous-looking complexion.

Who it is for: Skin that feels dry, dull or depleted, or anyone wanting to bring more nourishment and glow into their daily ritual.

The feeling afterwards: Supple, juicy and fed from the outside in.

Step Six: Seal it all in

Ultimate Face Cream

Finally, I massage in our Ultimate Face Cream.

This is the soft closing chapter of the ritual. It helps lock in all those beautiful layers of hydration and nourishment while leaving my skin feeling cushioned, comfortable and protected.

By now, my face feels entirely different—but so do I.

I have moved from rushing to ritual. From distracted to present. From “I really should look after myself” to actually having done it. Kindly.

Why I use it: To moisturise, soften and complete the ritual by sealing in lasting nourishment.

Who it is for: Anyone wanting a deeply comforting final layer that leaves the skin feeling soft, nurtured and beautifully moisturised.

The feeling afterwards: Cocooned, content and ready to glow.

How my skin feels after the full ritual

Soft. Smooth. Plump. Fresh. Deliciously nourished.

But the greatest difference is not only what I see in the mirror. It is the shift I feel within myself. I feel calmer, brighter and more connected—as though I have returned home to my own skin.

That is what slow skincare means to me.

It is not six products applied in a hurry. It is six small invitations to pause, breathe, touch, nourish and notice. Some days I complete the entire ritual. On others, I choose only the steps my skin is asking for. There are no rigid rules here. Your skin is not a problem to solve. It is a living, changing part of you—and learning to listen to it may be the most beautiful skincare ritual of all.

Because slow is not time wasted. Slow is a skincare ingredient.
