Why Toxin-Free Suncare Is So Important

Why Toxin-Free Suncare Is So Important

Posted by Nicole Sherwin on

We all know that we should wear sunscreen when we go outside, but did you know that not all sunscreens are created equal? In fact, many commercial sunscreens contain harmful chemicals that can be absorbed into the skin. That's why clean, toxin-free skincare products that contain superfood sun protection are so important. Here are three reasons why you should make the switch to a natural sunscreen.

1. Chemical sunscreens can be absorbed into the skin.
Many commercial sunscreens contain chemical ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate that can be absorbed into the skin. Studies have shown that these chemicals can disrupt hormone function and even potentially lead to cancer. On the other hand, natural sunscreens with ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide sit on top of the skin and provide protection without being absorbed.

2. Chemical sunscreens can be harmful to the environment.
Chemical sunscreens can wash off in the water and pollute our oceans and waterways. These chemicals can then be ingested by marine life and cause them harm. Natural sunscreens, on the other hand, are much more biodegradable and are not as harmful to the environment.

3. Natural sunscreens are just as effective as chemical sunscreens.
Contrary to popular belief, natural sunscreens can be just as effective as chemical sunscreens at protecting against UV rays. In fact, some studies have shown that natural sunscreens may even be more effective than chemical sunscreens at blocking out UV rays. So, there's no need to worry about sacrificing effectiveness when you switch to a natural sunscreen!

The Eco Diva #SummerEssentials list below, highlights which of the products contain naturally-occuring sun protection charged with superfood nutrition to protect, nourish & hydrate all in one. Get your sun-kissed glow on naturally!
