Proactive ageing is a concept that transcends traditional anti-ageing strategies. Instead of simply addressing the signs of ageing once they appear, proactive aging focuses on preventing and mitigating these signs from an early stage. It's a mindset that celebrates the ageing process as a natural part of life while harnessing the power of nutrition and nutricosmetic skincare to support the body's inherent rejuvenating mechanisms.
Proactive ageing doesn’t only focus on skin and skincare, but encompasses an holistic daily practice that keeps stress levels down (yoga, stretching, walking in nature, meditation, cold water bathing, prayer, low impact sport) as well as a large focus on gut health and the gut / brain balance. As the gut is like our ‘engine room’ to our entire body, it’s essential to feed it with the correct fuel (green leafy veggies, fruits, wholesome grains, superfoods, vitamins, minerals and omegas) that enhances health, re-energizes cells, reboots circulation, boosts collagen production and keeps the body in a healthy, active and supple state through correct nutrition. It's the art of rejuvenation.
Talking of rejuvenation, I got searching through my old SABC3 Expresso Show segment videos and wanted to share this one from 2013 (can't believe it's so long ago). Back then, I called this my Vitamin Enriched Anti-ageing Face Cream.
These days I don't believe in that terminology as it's a privilege to age, so I rather use proactive-ageing. And, back then I also used beeswax. These days I am 100% vegan - which means all our products have zero animal bi-products in them whatsoever and it feels like a much happier space to Bee in ;)
Back then, I also had extremely dark hair that I had to dye every 3 weeks (so exhausting and SO bad for my health). These days I'm more into my lighter locks and to letting the sparkly greys shine through.
11 years has certainly changed me in more ways than I could ever have imagined, but I do feel that at 55, I'm in the best mindset that I've ever been in my whole life. I care less what people think or say about me. I care less about wearing designer clothes (unless it's fashion with a purpose and sustainable). I care less about being in the 'right' circles, as my circles now must be filled with kindness.
I care more about the environment, the footprint I'm leaving behind and animal welfare. I care about ageing proactively and in the healthiest possible way, so that I can be around and be fit and healthy for my family and the people that I truly care about in my life. I care more about causes and living off the grid, growing my own food and I care more about wellness and vitality.
So ageing for me has been a beautiful process, once I let go of the fear of ageing and embraced it completely and with kindness.
My 2 year stint on SABC3 Expresso morning show is where Eco Diva Natural was born. I crafted over 85 DIY recipes for skin, hair, babies, animals and the home. All natural and all healthy. So, when I took my fave recipes to my bio-chemists, we transformed them into 100% vegan, cruelty-free superfood goodness.
In the pursuit of youthful vitality and radiant skin, a shift from the reactive "anti-ageing" mindset to a more proactive, wholesome approach has taken center stage. This new approach, often referred to as "proactive aging," emphasizes holistic well-being and sustainable practices that enhance the body's natural resilience. Leading this paradigm shift are superfoods and clean, toxin-free skincare, offering a revolutionary way to boost collagen production, provide deep hydration, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
The Role of Superfoods in Collagen Boosting and Hydration
Superfoods, renowned for their exceptional nutrient density, play a pivotal role in proactive ageing. These nutrient-packed wonders, including berries, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and fatty acids, are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that promote collagen production and maintain skin elasticity. Collagen, a vital protein responsible for skin's firmness, tends to diminish with age, leading to sagging and wrinkles. Superfoods like berries, rich in vitamin C, stimulate collagen synthesis, fostering a more youthful complexion.
Moreover, superfoods contribute to deep hydration – an essential aspect of healthy, youthful skin. Hydrated skin appears plumper, smoother, and more radiant, which helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Incorporating hydrating superfoods into one's diet and especially in skincare can enhance the skin's moisture retention capacity, supporting the proactive aging journey.
