DIY Natural Make-Up Brush Cleaner

DIY Natural Make-Up Brush Cleaner

Posted by Nicole Sherwin on

So we all have those dirty make-up brushes that we’ve used over and over again and keep thinking… ‘I must clean those’ but never get around to doing it. But it’s a rather important part of your hygiene routine. What can actually happen if you do keep using dirty brushes is the following:

Your pores can get clogged
Your skin can become infected
You could get pink eye
Your skin can become irritated
Your skin can become prematurely aged

We don’t want any of the above to happen to us. So here is a quick and easy, natural way to keep your brushes clean and super hygienic, which ultimately takes care of your skin and ensures that you won’t get blocked pores or infections.

What you’ll need:

Your dirty make-up brushes
A cup of hot water
2 teaspoons distilled white vinegar
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (sodium bicarb)

Directions:

Boil a cup of water. Add 2 teaspoons of the vinegar and the teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and stir.
Dip the brush in the solution and stir around gently against the bottom of the glass. Continue for about a minute or until you can see the brush becoming clean.
Rinse under running hot water. Follow with a cold water rinse. Re-shape the bristles if necessary and dry flat on a towel.

Alternatively, our Anti-aging Face Wash is wonderful for cleaning your make-up brushes and contains anti-fungal and anti-microbial ingredients. All you need to do is pump 2 pumps into a bowl, mix with a little water and stir your brush around the bowl ensuring that the wash is thoroughly absorbed into the brush. Clean further with your hands and rinse under warm water until all the dirt is removed. Repeat. Dry your brush flat on a towel.
